Which Charger?

Wall Connector Versus the Mobile Connector

Every Tesla owner asks the same thing first: do I actually need a Wall Connector, or will the cable that came with the car do? Honestly, it depends how you drive, and for some people the answer is no.

Tesla's own numbers make the case. On a regular outlet the Mobile Connector adds about 4.8 km of range an hour. On an approved 240 V outlet with the matching adapter, that climbs to as much as 48.2 km an hour. A Wall Connector adds up to 71 km an hour on the fastest models, plus scheduling, charging stats and app control the Mobile Connector doesn't have.

Mobile Connector

  • Regular outlet. About 4.8 km of range an hour. Fine as a backup, slow as a daily charger.
  • 240 V outlet. Up to 48.2 km an hour with the matching adapter, on an outlet your electrician approves for charging.
  • Portable. A 6 m cable that travels with the car.
  • Tesla only. You manage charging from the car's screen and the Tesla app.

Wall Connector

  • Up to 71 km an hour. 48 A output, 11.5 kW, on a 60 A breaker.
  • Sized to your panel. It can also go in on a smaller breaker when power is tight.
  • Indoor or outdoor. A 7.3 m cable, Wi-Fi and the Tesla app for scheduling and charging stats.
  • Ready for a second car. Two Wall Connectors can share one supply through Tesla's Power Management features.

One honest catch: a Model 3 or Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive tops out at 32 A, about 48.2 km an hour, on either charger. If that's your car, a 240 V outlet and the Mobile Connector can do the same job, and we'll tell you so.

What It Takes

What the Install Needs

A Wall Connector looks like a simple box on the wall. Getting the full speed out of it safely comes down to four things.

A Circuit of Its Own

A Wall Connector is wired straight onto its own 240 V circuit, with no plug in between. The breaker sets the charge rate, anywhere from 15 A up to the 60 A that gives the full 48 A output, so we size it to your car and your panel.

The Route From the Panel

Wires can come in from the top, bottom or back of the unit, so the run can be tucked into a garage wall or run tidily along the surface. A long run, a trench to a detached garage or a pedestal adds to the job, and we'll say so up front.

Commissioning, Not Just Wiring

Once it's wired, the installer sets the breaker rating and output in Tesla's app, connects it to your Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz, password protected) and registers it to your Tesla account. Skip that and scheduling and charging stats don't work.

Permit and Inspection

A new 240 V circuit is permitted work under the BC Electrical Code. We pull the permit through Technical Safety BC and the install gets inspected. This isn't a DIY job.

Your Panel

Panel Capacity and Load Management

A full-speed Wall Connector wants a 60 A circuit, and that's a big ask of some panels. Whether yours can take it isn't a guess from the driveway. It comes from a load calculation: what the house already runs, from heat and the range to a dryer, hot tub or heat pump, against the service you've got.

When the numbers come up short, a panel upgrade isn't the only answer. Sometimes it's the right one, and then we show you why. See our panel upgrades page, or the local pages for Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

How We Work It Out

  • Load calculation first. Your service size against what the house already draws, before anyone picks a breaker.
  • Room to spare: a dedicated circuit. The Wall Connector goes in at the full speed your car can use.
  • A bit tight: a lower setting. Tesla's Static Power Management runs the Wall Connector on a smaller breaker. Tesla says most people still charge enough overnight for daily driving.
  • Tight, but you want speed: dynamic load management. A Tesla-approved meter watches the panel, slows charging while the dryer and water heater run, and speeds back up when they stop.
  • Genuinely short: a panel upgrade. When the service can't carry it, we upgrade it, and you see the numbers that say so.

Cheapest option that works comes first: a circuit, a lower setting, load management, then an upgrade.

Plan Your Project

The Cost, Honestly

There's no Wall Connector price on this page, because the charger is the easy part. What moves the number is the work between your panel and where you park. Send us a few photos and you get a real quote, not a guess from a web page.

Distance How far the circuit runs from your panel to the charger.
The Route Inside finished walls, along the surface, or a trench to a detached garage.
Panel Headroom A dedicated circuit, a lower setting, load management or an upgrade.
Permit and Finish The Technical Safety BC permit, conduit, and a pedestal if you need one.
Build Your Free Estimate Ballpark ranges only, final pricing follows a free on-site assessment.
Rebates and Certification

Rebates, and Doing It Certified

Straight answer first: BC Hydro's home charger rebate no longer covers Tesla charging stations. Their eligibility rules say so, and no Tesla model is on their rebate-eligible charger list as of October 2026. If the rebate matters more to you than the Tesla app, a charger from that list may be the better buy, and we install those too.

Programs change, so we keep the current details in one place: see our CleanBC rebates page, and check BC Hydro's rebate page before you buy.

Rebate or Not, It Has to Be Done Right

  • It has to carry a Canadian certification mark. Equipment installed in BC needs one, so buy from a Canadian seller. Technical Safety BC lists the approved marks.
  • It has to be permitted. A new 240 V circuit needs an electrical permit, and we pull it.
  • It has to be inspected. The work gets signed off, not just switched on.
  • It has to be installed by a licensed electrician. Licensed, insured, Red Seal.

That's us.

How It Works

Our Process, From Quote to First Charge

No surprises between the first photo and the first charge. Here's how a Wall Connector job runs with us.

Red circular seal with the words Interprovincial Standard Canada Norme Interprovinciale.

Step 1: Photos and a Quote

Send a few photos of your panel and where you park. If the job needs a closer look, we come out. Then you get a transparent, itemized quote: labour, materials and the permit, with no hidden fees.

Step 2: The Permit

Once you approve the quote, we pull the electrical permit through Technical Safety BC and book a date that suits your schedule.

Step 3: Install and Commissioning

Our Red Seal electricians run the circuit, mount and wire the Wall Connector, then commission it in Tesla's app: breaker rating, Wi-Fi and registration to your account.

Step 4: Inspection and First Charge

We coordinate the inspection for the permitted work, walk you through the charger and the Tesla app, and you plug in.

Every job is a little different. The full step-by-step is on our process page, and permits are issued through Technical Safety BC.

Getting a Quote

What We Need to Know About Your Panel

You don't need to know anything about electrical to get a straight answer. A few photos and a couple of details tell us most of what we need, and we'll tell you if a site visit would change the picture.

Send Us These Five Things

  • A photo of your panel with the door open. Close enough that we can read the breaker labels.
  • The main breaker or amperage marking. If you can see it on the main breaker or the panel label, snap that too.
  • Where you want the charger. Roughly how far it is from the panel, and whether it's in the garage or on an outside wall.
  • How you charge now. A regular outlet, a 240 V outlet, or public charging.
  • Your Tesla and your driving. The model, and roughly how far you drive on a normal day.

That's enough for us to tell you whether it's a simple circuit, a lower setting, load management or a panel conversation.

Your Questions, Answered

Electrical work can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to pricing and timelines. We believe in transparent communication from the start. Here are answers to the most common questions we hear from Chilliwack homeowners and business owners.

Tesla says installation can take up to several hours, depending on the setup. A short run beside the panel is quicker. A long run, a trench or a panel change adds time, and we give you the timeline with the quote.

Justin and his team provided an outstanding experience from start to finish. They were punctual, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. The crew maintained a very clean work environment and treated the space with respect. What impressed me most was the level of service, they went above and beyond, completing many little extras without hesitation. Justin always answered my calls, followed through on commitments, and showed up exactly when he said he would. He even made time for a smaller job, which has not been my experience with others in the past. I am beyond pleased with the results and the entire process. I highly recommend Justin and his team to anyone seeking quality workmanship and reliable service.
